Queensland Heelers

frequently asked questions

Health?

To our knowledge both parents are free of any health defects. Aussie has passed through many tests in her travels back and forth from Australia and has the standard annual physical, as well as check ups before, during and after pregnancy. Cutter is required as a stud to have regular check ups, of which no issues have arisen. We provide a 100% guarantee on our puppies, meaning that even though parents have passed tests stating they are sound for breeding we stand behind any hereditary illnesses. If your dog develops problems, we expect to hear about them as well as be involved in the decision making process. You always have the option to return the dog, no matter the circumstances.

Are the puppies certified, pedigreed and/or papered?

When we chose to breed originally we had to weigh up the desire to have quality looking bloodlines on paper versus raising dogs that we could confidently state are true to the breed. Though you can achieve both, we already owned an excellent female that possesses many of the sought after qualities that Australian Cattle Dogs are known for. Aussie, is qualified for papers, however at time of purchase my sole intent was to use her as a working dog, as well as have her as my daily companion. The male we chose to use was also selected by his owner for his desire to herd, loyalty and overall temperament. His great grandfather is Blue Duster from Australia.

In the future we will be offering both papered and non-papered puppies.

Tail or no tails?

For many this is a controversial subject, yet from personal experience of owning both docked and non-docked Queensland Heelers we choose to have our puppies tails docked at the same time that their dew claws are removed. Because of the early docking the puppies have no problems being balanced in their movements. If you are looking for a dog for show, tails are required and so we are more then happy to refer you to breeders who have great dogs as well as excellent bloodlines. For further details on why we choose to dock, all you need to do is ask and we will gladly relate our experiences.

What is included?

Puppies will come with a copy of their Veterinary visits, showing their current vaccination schedule and any additional comments by our vet. You will also receive a sample of Diamond Puppy Food, the individual puppies favorite toy (if they have one), a CD with pictures of your puppy and their litter mates, a contract covering the health guarantee as well as your obligations as a new owner and lastly yet most importantly a well socialized puppy that is ready for his or her new home.

Shipping?

Due to the stresses of shipping, this is a case by case situation. We will take into consideration distance to their new home, as well as the individual puppy’s maturity and temperament. If after consulting with our veterinarian of 7+ years we are comfortable with the travel arrangements, suitable transportation will arranged. Prior to being shipped the puppy will be examined by the our veterinarian to ensure that he/she is sound both physcially and mentally for travel.

Waiting list?

Our wait list is kept in order according to first contact from interested parties. If you are not sure of your level of interest at this time, we advise that you put your name on the list, since the worst case scenario is that we remove your name when puppies become available.

Deposit?

Deposits are accepted after the puppies have been born and they have begun to show color. Our current female generally throws blues, reds and mottles. Additionally, we prefer for the new owners to meet the puppies, so that the right puppy goes to the right home.

Rights

We retain the right to refuse sale to any individual who we do not feel will provide a quality home and/or be a proper fit for one of the puppies. If you purchase one of our puppies and at anytime you are unable to properly care for and/or your living circumstances change, we reserver first rights to regain ownership of the dog.
